Dr. Debashis Roy Chowdhury, Assistant Professor of the Department of Drama, Faculty of Fine Arts, Rabindra Bharati University, teaches Drama and Theatre Arts with special focus on History of Theatre, stagecraft, costume design and its application, acting, puppetry.
Took training on puppetry under the guidance of the late eminent puppeteer Raghunath Goswami.
Theorist, Actor, Director, Costume Designer and Anchor. As an actor has appeared on the Bengali stage for many plays under the direction of Kumar Roy, Bibhas Chakraborty, Salil Bandyopadhyay, Ashok Mukhopadhyay, Debashis Majumdar, Dwijen Bandyopadhyay etc.
Directed many plays for different groups and the students of the Drama Department also.
Published works include ‘KHALED CHOWDHURY’, ‘TRIPTI MITRA, SILPE O JIBONE’, ‘NATYAKATHA MANCHAKATHA’, ‘POSHAKER KATHA’etc.
Editor of ‘CHITRA SEN, NATYAKARMEENIR ATMAKATHA’.
Published Articles on Theatre and Theatre Personalities in a number of Theatre Journals.
Experimented and worked on the story-telling, Galpa-Abhinay by name, from the stories of the eminent Bengali writers.
Granted National Scholarship for the Research in the field of Bengali Theatre.
As an actor has visited different states of our country and Bangladesh.
Invited by different Colleges and Universities for the Lecture and demonstration on story-telling.
Conducted several workshops on voice training and acting in the different districts of West Bengal.
Worked and designed exhibitions on the life and works of Bengali Theatre Personalities, History of Stage etc.
Resource person at the UGC Orientation Course held at Academic Staff College, Calcutta University.
Awaiting publication: Book on Indian Theatre Personalities.
