Rajyasree Ghosh with a background of extensive taalim (training) under sum of the most illustrious masters and a long history of performances in prestigious musical events in India and abroad is recognized as a rising star in the field of Hindustani Classical Music. She has also the special distinction of having equal flair in both Raga Music (Kheyal) as well as the lighter semi classical varieties: Thumri, dadra, Bhajan, Nazrulgeeti, Bengali Tappa and Puratani songs. She has successfully perceived the soul within the ancient ragas and then emerged on a journey of unique creativity and perfect rendition. Gifted with a beautiful voice both powerful and melodious, Rajyasree has developed a style characterized by riveting Bandishes, reposeful Alaps and rigorous, bold tans. Her music has a special romantic flavour which is bestowed by her powerful and yet tender approach.
Rajyasree Ghosh started her training in Indian Classical Music at very early age. In recognition of her exceptional talents, she was awarded the Gold Medal both in B.A and M.A in Classical Music (Kheyal) from the Rabindra Bharati University. She was later awarded the National Scholarship by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India in 1986 under the training of Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee. She was a scholar at the Sangeet Research Academy (SRA), where she studied music under the guidance of Smt. Girija Devi and Pandit Arun Bhaduri. Later she also supplemented her talim from the Late Pandit K.G. Ginde.
In light classical field she took extensive taalim of Thumri, Dadra etc. from Smt. Grija Devi at SRA. She took taalim in Nazrulgeeti from the late Smt. Suprava Sarkar and she is still learning Bengali Tappa, Puratani etc. from the legendary Shri. Ramkumar Chatterjee.
Rajyasree Ghosh has performed and won laurels in several prestigious music conferences. She was placed first for three consecutive years (1984 – 1986) in the Dover Lane Music Competition in Khayal , Ragpradhan and Bhajan. She features regularly in the All India Radio and is a senior lecturer at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
In the year 2000, She at the invitation of Bangiya Parisad in Oman, went to Muscat and performed several musical programmes and earned rich accolades. Thereafter during each of the years between 2001 – 2006, she visited USA on contract tours and gave both classical and semi classical concerts in various cities such as NEW YORK, ATLANTA CITY, NJ, KANSAS CITY, BOSTON, HOUSTON, DALLAS, ST. LOUIS, PITTSBURGH, DAYTON and CINCINNATI which were highly attended and immensely appreciated by the ethnic Indian and American audiences. She has performed in Bongo Mela Memphis Louisville in the consecutive years 2005-2006. In 2008 she has performed in Malhar Festival arranged by Indo-Occidental Symbiosis and took part in the annual conference of West Bengal State Music Academy. She has also performed at an all night classical music concert organized by Chandayan of New Jersey (2008). In 2009 she demonstrated classical music at Manhattan school of Music in NY. She is regularly teaching classical music at 105.4MHz F.M Gyanbani radio channel conducted by Indira Gandhi Open University.
