Profile

Dr. Jyotsna Chattopadhyay teaches in the Deptt.of Bengali. Her area of teaching is Medieval Bengali Literature specially Ramayana and Manuscriptology. Beside that she teaches Bankim Literature.Her area of interest is Modern Bengali Poetry and Translatory work too.
She has completed her Ph.D. from Visva Bharati University on “Vaishnaba Kavi Kavishekhara” in 1994 under the guidance of Prof. Sukhomay Mukhopadhyay.
She has completed her Post Doctoral Research [2002-2005] entitled “Heritage of Ramayana in Indian & South East Asia” with Post Doctoral Fellowship Award by UGC.
A Major Research Project (MRP -UGC) entitled “Impact of Ramayana : In East Indian Language & Literature and A Comparative Study (Bengali Hindi Oriya Assamese Nepali)”has been completed during the period of 2006 - 2009.
She has participated as a translator in German – Bengali Poetry Workshop by Sahitya Academy, Kolkata co-ordinated by the Poet Aloke Ranjan Dasgupta in 2009.
As a Co- editor, Project of Editing and Comparative studies of Krittivasi Ramayana Manuscript by Krittivas Library & Museum, Phulia, Nadia, Govt. of W.B. collaborated with MSS Section, Calcutta University is going on..
Delivered lectures : “Ramayana in Temple Terracotta”- an International Seminar organized by Centre for South & South East Asian Studies, University of Calcutta and Deptt. of History, Visva Bharati, 2008
“Cultural Heritage of Ramayana in India” in 3rd International Ramayana Conference arranged by the Deptt. of South Asia, North Illinois University, Chicago, USA in 2010.
As a Chair-person and Resource Person in many Seminars, Conferences, Workshops in State, National & International Level.
Articles published in leading Bengali Magazines e.g. Visva Bharati, Korok, Katha Sahitya, Dashadishi, Hriday etc in different sphere of Bengali Literature.
